🚨 Survival is not enough.
Each year, tens of thousands of people survive conflict settings with complex injuries, severe burns, and long-term disabilities.
➡️ Gaza: up to 46,000 patients require reconstructive surgery
➡️ Ukraine: over 50,000 survivors affected
➡️ 300,000 people live with war-related disabilities
(Sources: Duke University, NHS, Al Shifa Hospital, WHO, Ukraine data)
They survive. But without coordinated care pathways, they do not recover.
On May 18 in Geneva, 2nd Chance is organizing a strategic workshop in collaboration with the Geneva Health Forum, as a side event of the World Health Assembly 2026.
A working space bringing together surgeons, NGOs, researchers, institutions and donors around one operational goal:
➡️ analyze existing care pathways
➡️ identify critical gaps
➡️ build concrete collaboration mechanisms
🎯 A working session to structure solutions. Not a conference.

Reconstructive care is not a single intervention. It requires a coordinated continuum of care across multiple actors:
early identification → emergency care → surgery → rehabilitation → long-term follow-up
Today, this continuum is rarely structured.
On May 18 in Geneva, 2nd Chance is organizing a strategic workshop in collaboration with the Geneva Health Forum, as a side event of the World Health Assembly 2026:
"Strengthening Collaboration to Build Operational Pathways for Reconstructive Care in Conflict Settings"
─────────────────────────────
WHAT TO EXPECT
This workshop is designed as a working session to:
• Map existing care pathways in conflict settings
• Identify critical gaps and challenges
• Explore complementarities across actors
• Develop concrete and operational collaboration strategies
─────────────────────────────
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop is open to all stakeholders engaged in access to reconstructive surgical care: NGOs, healthcare professionals, researchers, institutions, and donors.

🚀 A working space to connect people, experiences, and solutions - on May 18 in Geneva.
2nd Chance and the Geneva Health Forum invite you to a strategic workshop during the 79th World Health Assembly, where we'll transform challenges into coordinated action.
Because behind every statistic is a patient navigating broken systems - and too often, they disappear along the way.
What will we accomplish together?
👥 Three focused working groups (15 participants each), addressing three critical gaps in the patient journey:
1️⃣ Surgical Care
Facilitated by Dr Rahul Koti (International Committee of the Red Cross)
→ How can we deliver safe, effective surgery in conflict settings?
2️⃣ Rehabilitation & Follow-up
Facilitated by Erica Bleakley (WHO Emergency Technical Team)
→ How can we provide sustainable support beyond surgery?
3️⃣ Data & Research
Facilitated by Prof Olivia Kaiser (Geneva Institute of Global Health)
→ How can we generate and leverage data to maximize impact?
🗺 Our collective roadmap:
→ Map existing care pathways - Where are the critical gaps?
→ Identify failure points - Why do patients fall through the cracks?
→ Develop actionable solutions - How can we implement real change?
🎯 Our shared goal: Transition from fragmented efforts to coordinated, systemic action - ensuring no patient is left behind.
👉 Join this workshop.
